Hey this is pretty useful! NG really needed something like this! Good place to link to if people ask now.

First of all, thanks a ton for this guide. I'd already read up a bit on the wiki, but it's nice to get some additional info about how things work around here.

Anyway, I have one question: I imagine being banned from the art portal entails violating the site rules, but what are the criteria for having a submission removed from the portal? All I've been able to find about it is that it happens if your artwork is "shitty," but that's painfully vague. Is it based on the ratings system?

If your submission was stolen or uses content from someone's else work without their written permission, then the mods here got the right to tear it down and revoke your Art Portal privileges. A 'shitty' submission usually doesn't warrant a ban, but if 99.99% of your content was just spam then that merits a ban and a possible suspension of your NG account.

The rating system is mostly there to gauge user interest, passing judgement on stuff, and positions on the rankings. The leaderboards isn't used much anymore and the results there are mostly static. Getting a low or a zero score doesn't mean much in the Audio/Art Portal (even if it's shitty), however if your score falls below the average in the Movie/Games portal while it's in judgement, it will be blammed (deleted). Anyone who successfully protects/blams a submission gets points for doing so.

It's a nifty way to self-mod the site yourself. Scores of 5 really does help people though, and 5 stars are pretty to look at.

@totalgary @solitonmedic Thanks for the clarification! I have to say, it's really impressive how welcoming and helpful this community is. NG truly is something special :)

You should see how unruly the spam was back in the day, full cooperation of EVERYONE was a must here was needed to keep the place clean!

Nowadays, there aren't anymore spammy submissions around to boost your Blam points anymore. :(
We kept it TOO clean now, but a couple of stuff do come around now and then

Hey, just read through the guide, couples typos you might want to correct:

ends and start > ends and starts
allowing you judge > allowing you to judge

Also seems we now have 12 tags instead of 4! As of yesterday at least.

I’ve noticed!

I’ll make some changes and update some information as soon as I get home.

Cool. :)

This is just great, thank you friend

thanks for the guide.

So.. anytime I see a flash for example.. and it has 0 stars and I vote 0 and it gets blammed I receive a blam points. Or how do I know if it's under judgement?

You'll know if a submission is blammed when the site congratulates you for "destroying someone's hard work", just like how the site announces you earn one Protect point. (it will only notify you if you were the last vote needed for a submission to pass/fail judgement.)

Sometimes it doesn't, so verify it's gone by looking at the portal, your stats and the obituaries.

Gave the guide a update!

Changed the name so it'll feel a bit more "polished", added a new line within "What's Allowed and What's Not?" concerning test animations and test games.

Another update, added information about the Audio Portal and Geometry Dash usage.

Thanks for the guide.

Update coming up, included a link to a list of site moderators.

Added a bit regarding submissions made from Source Filmmaker and similar.

How do you link your NG art in the forums?

Copy the web address from your browser then paste it onto your post, NG will automatically attach the extra stuff for you.

for example:
newgrounds.com/portal/view/******
newgrounds.com/art/view/****/***
and etc

Another update, another entry
Covers the 1/16/2019 update!

Yet another update, this time I added the usual Newgrounds holidays and included info about Double XP events. Cool.

Great guide! This'll be useful for newcomers
